The countdown to the Coal City International Cup has begun, and the organizers have assured that all is set for a thrilling pre-season football tournament. Scheduled to take place from August 1st to 11th at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, the competition promises to be an exciting display of football talent.
According to Ifeanyi Ogbu, the Managing Director of Ski-Hi Entertainment, all eight participating teams have confirmed their participation, and there have been no changes or substitutions. The teams include four Nigerian clubs: Rangers, the reigning NPFL champions; Enyimba, 9-time league champions; Kano Pillars, 4-time league champions; and Remo Stars, the 2023/2024 league runners-up.
Joining the Nigerian teams are four international teams: Corinthians of Brazil, FC Coton from the Republic of Benin, Gor Mahia, the 21-time and current Kenyan champions, and FC Kallon from Sierra Leone.
Ogbu emphasized the high caliber of the participating teams, noting that three of the teams are league champions in their respective countries, while others had impressive performances last season. He expressed the organizers' commitment to bringing out the best in all the teams as they prepare for the next season.
With a prize money of N50,000,000 (fifty million naira), the Coal City International Cup is set to be a prestigious tournament that will showcase the skills of top football players from Nigeria and beyond. Football fans in Enugu and beyond can look forward to an exciting two weeks of football action.
