The President of Sunshine Stars Football Club, Akure, Bamidele Ologunloluwa, has clarified why the Nigeria Premier Football League club has chosen Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode as its temporary home ground. The Owena Whales made the decision due to the ongoing renovation and upgrade of the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, which is their traditional home. This shift is aimed at ensuring the team has a suitable venue to continue their matches while their primary stadium undergoes much-needed improvements.
Ologunloluwa acknowledged the inconvenience this temporary move might cause the team's fans, both in Nigeria and abroad. He expressed understanding and empathy for the passionate supporters who are used to seeing their beloved team play in Akure. He urged them to be patient and continue supporting Sunshine Stars during this transitional period. The President assured fans that the adoption of Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium would be short-lived, as efforts are underway to complete the renovation at the Akure sports complex as quickly as possible.
He further emphasized the club's commitment to delivering excellent results in the upcoming 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season. Ologunloluwa stated, "I can assure our fans that Sunshine Stars will make them happy with good results in this 2024/25 season. We are working to present not just any team, but a solid squad capable of competing for the league." Additionally, he praised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State for his significant contributions to the development of football in the state, particularly by approving the renovation and upgrading of the Ondo State Sports Complex. Sunshine Stars are set to kick off their 2024/25 season with a home fixture against Bayelsa United at their temporary home in Ijebu-Ode, where they hope to make their supporters proud despite the temporary relocation.
