NPFL 25: Boboye Reflects on Tough Win Against Nasarawa United FC

Sunshine Stars FC head coach, Kennedy Boboye, acknowledged the difficulty of their 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United on matchday 8 of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Despite securing all three points, Boboye insisted that his team faced a tough challenge from a well-coached side. The match took place at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, with Olufemi Opeoluwa’s 17th-minute strike making the difference.

Speaking after the game, Boboye praised Nasarawa United, emphasizing that they are a formidable side led by an experienced coach. "We played against a good side coached by an experienced coach," he said, giving credit to their opponents for making the match more competitive than expected.

Boboye admitted that Sunshine Stars didn’t dominate the game as they usually do. “It was a very tough game for us today as we did not play the way we normally run over teams. Had we conceded a goal, it would have been a different result,” he explained, acknowledging that his team was fortunate to maintain their clean sheet and secure the win.

The victory sees Sunshine Stars climb to fourth place in the NPFL standings with 13 points from eight matches. Despite the win, Boboye is aware that his team needs to improve, especially as they prepare for their next match against Plateau United in Jos, which will be another challenging fixture.

Looking ahead, Sunshine Stars aim to build on their current form as they continue to push for a strong finish in the 2024/25 season. Boboye will be hoping that his side can replicate their success on the road when they face Plateau United, a team known for its solid home performances.
