Barau FC secured their first win of the Nigerian National League (NNL) season, defeating Sokoto United 1-0 in a match played at Dambatta Stadium, Kano State, on Saturday.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Dr. Barau Jibril, was among the spectators who came to support the team, popularly known as the Maliya Boys.
Okeke Ekechikwu scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute, assisted by Najib Yusuf, sealing a crucial victory for Barau FC.
Interim technical adviser Rabi’u Tata praised the players for their performance. “I am very happy with this victory. The new players made us proud with how well they played,” he said.
Tata assured fans that the team will remain focused as they prepare for upcoming matches in the 2024/2025 NNL season.
Barau FC will face Zamfara United next on Sunday, January 19, at the FIFA Goal Project Stadium in Birnin Kebbi.
