Heartland Queens FC, popularly known as the Owerri Landladies, are aiming for a groundbreaking season in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership. Following an impressive run to the 2024 NWFL Super Six tournament in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the team is determined to achieve a podium finish and secure a continental ticket.

Ranked as the fifth-best team in the country, Heartland Queens have strengthened their squad during the off-season and are fully prepared for the upcoming campaign. Head coach Obi Ogbala leads the charge as the team readies for their league opener against Ekiti Queens on Wednesday, January 15, in Ado Ekiti.

Defensive midfielder Mary Popoola, a recent signing from Sunshine Queens, expressed her determination to contribute to the team's success. "I know Heartland Queens made it to the NWFL Super Six last year. I’m here to help the team achieve that milestone again and bring my best to the squad," she stated.

Prisca Nwachukwu, a standout defender and former Imo Striker Queens player, is eager to bolster the team's defense. "We will work hard to produce the best results. Clean sheets are never guaranteed, but we are ready to give it our all," she said confidently.

First-choice goalkeeper Amarachi Atulayo is optimistic about the team's chances. "Our goal this season is to reach the podium and secure a spot in Africa. With the talent and coaching we have, I believe we can achieve our best performance yet," she asserted.

Team captain Chimebere Opara echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the determination to exceed last season’s accomplishments. "We are more focused than ever on a podium finish. We have the players, coaches, and support to aim for the top," she declared.

Heartland Queens’ clash with Ekiti Queens promises to be an exciting encounter as they look to make a strong start. With a blend of experience and youthful talent, the Owerri Landladies are poised to deliver thrilling football while chasing their continental ambitions.

The journey to glory begins January 15 in Ado Ekiti. Will Heartland Queens rise to the challenge? Time will tell.
