The Nigerian National League (NNL) has imposed sanctions on Kebbi United FC following an incident of pitch encroachment during their Match Day 4 encounter against Basira FC on January 5, 2025. The match, held at the Birnin Kebbi Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw but was marred by reports of several Kebbi United officials encroaching onto the pitch and threatening match officials.
The NNL's official match report identified the individuals responsible for the misconduct as Kebbi United's Welfare Officer, Assistant Kit Manager, and Kit Manager. In response, the league invoked Article 16.1.1 of its regulations, which penalizes pitch encroachment with fines and bans.
Kebbi United FC has been fined N1,000,000, and the three officials involved—Rilwanu Auwal (Welfare Officer), Babangida Shehu (Kit Manager), and Faruku B.B (Assistant Kit Manager)—have been banned from all league activities for the remainder of the 2024/2025 season.
The NNL clarified that the decision was issued under its summary jurisdiction, though Kebbi United FC has the right to appeal to the Disciplinary Committee within 48 hours of receiving the ruling.
This action underscores the league's commitment to maintaining discipline and safeguarding the integrity of its matches.
