Nasarawa Amazons Secure Hard-Fought Victory Over Ekiti Queens in Lafia

Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia continued their impressive run in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after securing a vital 2-0 victory over Ekiti Queens in a matchday 4 encounter at the Lafia City Stadium. Goals from Ojiyovwi Kesiena and Janet Akekeromowei sealed the win, ensuring the home side took all three points against a determined Ekiti Queens side.

The match started with both teams displaying high intensity, battling for control of possession. Ekiti Queens showed no fear playing away from home, pressing high and attempting to break down the Nasarawa Amazons' defense. However, both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances, leading to a goalless first half.

After the break, Nasarawa Amazons came out with more attacking intent. Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Ojiyovwi Kesiena found the back of the net, sending the home crowd into celebration. Just two minutes later, Janet Akekeromowei, who had been enduring a goal drought, doubled the lead with a well-taken finish to put the Lafia-based team in firm control.

Despite their two-goal lead, Nasarawa Amazons remained disciplined at the back, effectively shutting down Ekiti Queens’ attacking threats. The visitors made several attempts to respond, but the defensive unit of the Amazons held strong, ensuring they kept a clean sheet.

The victory solidified Nasarawa Amazons’ position at the top of the NWFL Premiership 25 table, as they now sit with nine points. This win also boosts their hopes of securing a place in the Super Six, a crucial stage in the league’s competition format.

Speaking after the match, head coach Christopher Danjuma praised his players for their performance, especially in the second half. "The league is a growing competition. We came in the second half to push, and we got the goals. We are working on team cohesion and rhythm," he stated.

The win also highlights the attacking prowess of the Lafia Landladies, as they continue to improve their goal-scoring form. Akekeromowei’s goal will be a confidence booster for the striker, who had been searching for her first goal of the season.

Nasarawa Amazons will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Edo Queens in Benin. The match, set to take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, will be another crucial test as they look to extend their winning streak.

Ekiti Queens, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from this defeat as they prepare for their next match. Despite the loss, their spirited display showed they are a competitive side capable of challenging strong opponents in the league.

With the season progressing, Nasarawa Amazons will aim to maintain their momentum and continue their push for glory in the NWFL. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if they can sustain their fine form and secure a spot in the championship phase.
