Afolabi Ecstatic as Rivers Angels Secure Record 10th Federation Cup Title



Rivers Angels forward Taiwo Afolabi has expressed her joy after playing a pivotal role in helping the Port Harcourt-based side clinch a record 10th President Federation Cup title.

In a dramatic final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, the Jewels of Rivers came from two goals down to draw level with Nasarawa Amazons, with Afolabi netting the equaliser that reignited her team’s hopes.

“Guess the new champion in town and also a goal scorer? I, Afolabi Taiwo Tewogbola. What a way to end the season — it can only be God,” she said after the match.

The thrilling encounter was decided by penalties, with Rivers Angels triumphing 4-2 in the shootout to retain their crown. Goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, who was also named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, sealed the win by scoring the final kick.

The victory marks Rivers Angels’ 10th Federation Cup triumph, cementing their status as the most successful team in the competition’s history.
