As preparations intensify ahead of the new Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) season, former Super Eagles player and current Enyimba Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekweme, is setting the tone for progress after participating in the FIFA Management Course for NPFL administrators in Abuja.
Ekweme praised the programme, describing it as “one of the best management courses for NPFL administrators.” Organized by FIFA in partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the course is designed to sharpen the administrative and strategic skills of those involved in managing Nigerian football clubs.
“This programme is an eye-opener to the real world of football management and the business of the game,” Ekweme said. “Participating in it is a big high for me.”
He stressed that such training opportunities are essential for the development of the NPFL and the broader Nigerian football ecosystem, noting that the knowledge shared by FIFA experts is crucial to elevating the league to continental standards.
“If we continue with more of this kind of FIFA programme, I bet you it will help us and our league. It brings wisdom and insight that can transform football management in Nigeria.”
Ekweme believes the impact of the course extends beyond the league itself, pointing to potential benefits for grassroots football development.
“This is not just for NPFL administrators and clubs,” he said. “It will benefit the entire Nigerian football family—from professional clubs to grassroots initiatives.”
The former midfielder also called for increased support from key stakeholders, especially the NFF and NPFL leadership. According to him, sustainable investment in training, infrastructure, and management will be vital for the league’s success.
“I urge Nigerian football supporters to rally behind the NFF and NPFL leadership. With unity and the right backing, we can bring our football back to its glory days and write new history.”
Ekweme confirmed he will implement the lessons from the FIFA course in his role at Enyimba, with a vision to help the club compete at higher standards both domestically and in continental competitions.
