The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Club Owners’ Forum, in partnership with the League Management, convened an expanded meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Hotel De Bentley in Abuja to address pressing matters affecting Nigerian football.
The gathering brought together club chairmen and key stakeholders who, after extensive deliberations, issued a 12-point communiqué focused on strengthening league operations and governance.

1. Vote of Confidence in NFF Leadership
The Forum unanimously expressed support for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, applauding his leadership and commitment to football development.
2. Endorsement of NPFL Leadership
Commendations were extended to NPFL Chairman, Chief Gbenga Elegbeleye, and Chief Operating Officer, Prince Davidson Owumi, for their professionalism and effective management of the league.
3. Support for Forum Leadership
Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu, Chairman of the NPFL Club Owners’ Forum, received a vote of confidence for his leadership and coordination of the Forum’s affairs.
4. Assessment of the 2024/2025 Season
The Forum described the concluded NPFL season as one of the most organized in recent history, citing improved matchday coordination and adherence to fixtures.
5. Reforms to League Rules
Amendments to the NPFL Framework and Rules were approved, including enhanced life and injury insurance for players and officials, and improved post-match media protocols.
6. CAF Recognition
Remo Stars FC were congratulated for winning the 2024/2025 NPFL title. Rivers United and Abia Warriors also received commendation for qualifying for CAF interclub competitions.
7. Super Eagles Applauded
The Super Eagles were lauded for their triumph at the Unity Cup Tournament in London, with the Forum describing the win as a morale booster for Nigerian football.
8. Economic Strategy and Club Funding
Clubs were advised to explore diverse revenue streams including sponsorships, merchandising, and media rights to ensure financial sustainability amid economic challenges.

The proposed calendar for the next NPFL season was reviewed, with stakeholders calling for operational alignment to guarantee seamless execution.

Forum members expressed gratitude to National Sports Commission Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, for his unwavering support of Nigerian sports development.

Acknowledgment was given to private club owners and State Governors for their continued investment in football despite prevailing economic difficulties.

Enhanced security at match venues was prioritized, with State Football Associations urged to step up their responsibilities in ensuring safe environments.
