After a deserved three-week break following their impressive run in the Nationwide League One (NLO), Enyimba’s youth team — the Young Elephants — have resumed training with their focus firmly on the upcoming N-Youth Super 8 playoffs set for later this month in Lagos.
The Young Elephants, who competed with grit and style at the Oisa Stadium during the NLO season, finished second on the log, cementing their status as one of the standout teams of the campaign. Their performances reflected tactical discipline and collective maturity beyond their years, under the guidance of Coach King Joe Akuma and his technical crew.
Prior to their NLO campaign, the team had topped the Southern Conference of the N-Youth League with 46 points — a dominant display that booked their spot in the prestigious Super 8 playoffs, which pits the country’s best youth teams against one another.
Training has resumed at the club’s Aba training ground, where energy and focus are high. The team is pushing hard in every session, aiming to hit peak form ahead of the Lagos showdown.
Team Manager Ray Edede believes the squad is ready for the challenge. “We gave the boys some time off after the NLO to recover. Many of them had been on the road constantly. Now, with the Super 8 ahead, our focus is clear — we want to win,” he said.
Key players like midfield orchestrator Gabtony Okechukwu, striker Nelson Sule — who netted 15 goals this season — and commanding center-back Kelechi Mba will be central to the Young Elephants’ campaign. Their leadership and consistency have been crucial in tight moments, and their experience will be vital in Lagos.
