Shooting Stars SC sit seventh on the Nigeria Premier Football League table, and it has been a largely encouraging campaign for one of the country’s most storied clubs. For a side with deep roots, a massive fan base and clear football identity, 3SC are quietly putting together a solid season.
The Ibadan outfit remain loyal to a 4-3-3 system, one that suits the balance and depth of their squad. In goal, Godgift Elkanah and Mustapha Lawal have shared responsibilities, although Lawal has stood out. Widely regarded as a top-three goalkeeper in the NPFL, his presence offers calm and authority at the back.
Defensively, Shooting Stars boast quality across the line. Ikouwem Utim, whose career has taken him through Israel, Croatia and Tunisia, is the standout left-back, combining experience with consistency. Jamiu Hamzat, signed from Gateway United, provides reliable cover. On the right, Ghali Falke has been impressive, though Justice Apaingolo, formerly of ASVO FC in Benin, is pushing hard for minutes.
At centre-back, Gbolagade Adelowo and Al-Ameen Tijani have formed one of the strongest partnerships in the league. Tijani, in particular, has been a revelation, adding composure and intelligence to the defensive unit.
In midfield, Tunde Akeem Azeez anchors the side effectively, shielding the defence and breaking up play. Ahead of him, Kabiru Tijani and Junior Abiodun Ayobami operate with freedom and intensity. Both midfielders combine energy with technical quality, controlling tempo and driving the team forward. As a trio, Azeez, Tijani and Ayobami rank among the best midfield units in the NPFL.
Out wide, Ismail Ayodele has been a major threat from the left. The former Sunshine Stars winger has produced four goals and two assists, an impressive return that underlines his impact. On the opposite flank, Promise Awosanmi is the preferred option, while Mustapha Adam Agba’a continues to impress off the bench. His pace and directness suggest a bright future.
Leading the line is Ibrahim Sodiq, a powerful striker whose physical presence causes constant problems for defenders. New signing Qamar Adegoke has yet to fully settle, often used as a substitute, and expectations around his contribution remain higher.
Shooting Stars’ goals have been spread across the front line, with Ayodele leading the charts on four goals, followed by Sodiq on three. Adegoke and Agba’a have each added two.
With structure, quality and growing confidence, 3SC look capable of pushing higher up the table as the season unfolds.
