Dominic Iorfa, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (VC/CEO) of Lobi Stars FC, has officially bid farewell to the club following the dissolution of his management by the Benue State government. In an emotional parting message, Iorfa expressed his gratitude to Governor Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, PhD, and other key stakeholders for their unwavering support during his tenure. His message reflects a deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve and the collective efforts that contributed to the club's resurgence.
Gratitude to Governor Alia and State Officials
Iorfa began by extending heartfelt thanks to Governor Hyacinth Alia for the trust placed in him to lead the club during a challenging period. “Let me, on behalf of my humble self, my family, and the entire management of Lobi Stars FC, appreciate our sports-loving Governor, His Excellency Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, PhD, for the confidence and trust he reposed in me despite some mounted pressures,” Iorfa stated.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Governor, the Speaker, and other principal officers of the government who supported his administration in various capacities. Iorfa's recognition of these officials underscores the collaborative efforts needed to steer a football club through difficult times, highlighting the crucial role of government support in sports management.
Reflecting on His Second Stint at Lobi Stars
Reflecting on his second tenure with Lobi Stars, Iorfa acknowledged the immense responsibility bestowed upon him to revive the club's fortunes. "My second coming was a unanimous decision by the people for me to come and rescue the club from the mud of relegation," he recalled. Under his leadership, Lobi Stars not only avoided relegation but also consolidated their position to finish among the top five teams in the league, a significant achievement given the challenges they faced.
Iorfa emphasized the team’s remarkable progress, especially given the adversity of playing all their matches away from home. "By the special grace of God, we succeeded, thereafter we consolidated the team to finish among the top best five in the league despite playing all our matches away from home," he said. His words highlighted his strategic management and ability to inspire resilience among players and staff during trying circumstances.
Celebrating Achievements and Preparations for the Future
During his tenure, Lobi Stars achieved notable successes, including winning the Gusau/Ahlan Preseason Tournament in Jos, which positioned the team well for the league's opening game against Akwa United FC before the dissolution of his management. “This coming season, we had made adequate preparations for the league,” Iorfa noted, pointing to the strategic steps taken to ensure the club’s competitiveness.
He urged the players, officials, supporters, and fans of the club to continue supporting the team with even greater enthusiasm. “Going forward, I wish to urge all the players, officials, supporters, and fans of the club to continue in a much stronger way to give the team their full support to excel,” Iorfa said, reiterating his commitment to the club’s long-term success.
A Personal Reflection and Future Plans
Iorfa also took a moment to reflect on his personal journey with Lobi Stars, acknowledging the mutual impact between him and the club. “For me, as an individual, Lobi Stars made me, and I have also made sacrifices for the progress of Lobi Stars, of which history will continue to bear witness,” he remarked. His deep connection with the club was evident, as he spoke about the sacrifices and contributions he made to ensure its growth and success.
Looking ahead, Iorfa indicated that he plans to take some time to rest but remains committed to supporting Lobi Stars in any way he can. "My next move is to have a rest for now and continue to support Lobi Stars in spirit," he said, leaving the door open for future involvement with the club. He also expressed his willingness to serve Benue State in any capacity whenever called upon, reinforcing his dedication to both the club and his community.
Concluding Remarks: A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication
In his farewell message, Iorfa once again thanked Governor Alia and the people of Benue State for their support and promised to remain available for any future service to the state. “Once again, I thank the governor and the good people of Benue State and promise to avail myself to work for the state in any capacity whenever I am called upon,” he concluded.
