CBE FC Coach Reveals Shocking Reason Behind Defeat to Edo Queens – Here’s What Went Wrong

Heye Gizaw Birhanu, coach of Ethiopia's CBE FC, shared insights into their recent defeat to Nigeria's Edo Queens in the CAF Women's Champions League (CAFWCL) playoffs. According to Birhanu, the team’s inexperience on such a big stage was a significant factor, with many of his players participating in their first tournament of this scale. This unfamiliarity led to costly mistakes that ultimately impacted their performance.

Birhanu acknowledged that while they lost the match, they also missed crucial scoring opportunities that could have changed the game. Reflecting on the opening match, he emphasized that his team must capitalize on chances and minimize errors to be more competitive in their upcoming matches.

Despite the setback, Birhanu remained optimistic about his squad’s potential. He stated that the players are still confident and motivated to improve, and the team has learned valuable lessons that they aim to apply in their remaining group matches. This resilience, he believes, will help them adjust and perform better as the tournament progresses.

CBE FC now looks ahead to their next challenge on November 13th against Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa, followed by a final group-stage match against FC Masar on November 16th. With these upcoming games, Birhanu hopes to see his team bounce back and demonstrate their growth in the competition.
