CAF Postpones 2024 CHAN Tournament to August 2025

In a major announcement today, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially postponed the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for February 1-28, 2024, in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The tournament will now take place in August 2025, with an exact date to be confirmed by CAF at a later time.

The decision follows recommendations from CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who emphasized that additional time is necessary to complete ongoing upgrades to stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities to meet CAF’s standards for hosting the tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed appreciation for the leadership of Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for their commitment to the project. He praised the progress made in infrastructure development and voiced confidence that the facilities will meet the required standards by August 2025.

Despite the tournament's postponement, the draw for the CHAN tournament will proceed as scheduled tomorrow, January 15, 2025, in Nairobi at 20:00 local time.
