Remo Stars Extend Lead with Victory Over Sunshine Stars

Remo Stars continued their impressive campaign in the Nigeria Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sunshine Stars on Wednesday. The victory extended their lead at the top of the table, bringing their total points to 45, a nine-point advantage over second-placed Shooting Stars, who have 39 points.

The match marked Remo Stars' fourth away win of the season, demonstrating their resilience on the road. This victory also served as a perfect start to the second half of the league season, further solidifying their dominance. Having already achieved double victories against Akwa United, Abia Warriors, and now Sunshine Stars—both home and away—Remo Stars are making a strong statement in the ongoing competition.

Should they triumph over Kano Pillars next week, Remo Stars will have completed their fourth double of the season, cementing their status as the team to beat in the league.

The opening goal came early in the match, with Alex Oyowah scoring in the ninth minute. Oyowah found the back of the net with a well-placed header from Sikiru Alimi’s precise cross, giving Remo Stars an early advantage.

As the match progressed, Sunshine Stars struggled to create significant chances. However, Remo Stars maintained control, with skipper Nduka Junior playing a pivotal role in their attacking play. He launched Ibrahim Abubakar into a scoring position, and Abubakar showed composure, lobbing the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper Ishola Abdulatif to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

Despite the two-goal deficit, Sunshine Stars refused to go down without a fight. In the 67th minute, Matthew Samuel pulled one back for the hosts with a well-taken strike, reducing Remo Stars’ lead to 2-1.

However, Remo Stars held firm in the remaining minutes to seal the win and extend their lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier League. With a nine-point cushion, they are in a strong position to challenge for the title as the season progresses.
