Kwara United have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 President Federation Cup for the first time in their history after a dramatic 2-2 draw and a perfect penalty shootout win over Akwa United on Saturday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Akwa United stormed ahead with quick goals in the 16th and 21st minutes, putting the Harmony Boys under pressure early on. But Kwara United responded with determination, as Wasiu Alalade struck twice in the 33rd and 45th minutes to bring the game level before the break.
In the second half, Coach Tunde Sanni’s tactical reshuffle ensured stability, with goalkeeper Suraju Ayeleso and the backline keeping Akwa United at bay.
The game proceeded to penalties, where Kwara United were flawless. Alhaji Sodeeq scored the decisive fifth spot-kick, while Ayeleso made a crucial save to seal the 5-3 shootout win.
Coach Tunde Sanni hailed his side’s fighting spirit: “My boys showed character, resilience, and the hunger to win. I'm proud of their performance and the way they came back from two goals down.”
Kwara United now advance to the semi-finals with confidence and belief.
