Enugu Rangers midfielder Saviour Isaac has been called up to represent Nigeria in the upcoming Unity Cup, set to take place in London from May 27 to 31 at Brentford’s GTech Community Stadium.
Isaac, Rangers' top scorer this season with 10 goals, is one of 11 players selected from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for the four-nation tournament. The Unity Cup will feature Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago, offering a platform to showcase domestic talent.
The team will be led by Coach Daniel Ogunmodede, a member of Eric Chelle’s technical crew, who has emphasized the importance of rewarding in-form NPFL players due to the tournament's scheduling outside the FIFA international window.
Nigeria will begin their campaign on May 28 with a clash against arch-rivals Ghana. The winners of each semifinal will progress to the final, while the losing sides will compete in a third-place match.
The NPFL selection includes familiar names such as CHAN Eagles captain Nduka Junior, Remo Stars duo Sodiq Ismail and Sikiru Alimi, Ahmed Musa, Plateau United’s Adamu Abubakar and Vincent Temitope, Niger Tornadoes' Papa Daniel, and Enugu Rangers' Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, alongside Isaac.
The Unity Cup serves as vital preparation for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), underlining Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its home-based squad.
