"We Are Still in a Good Place" – Finidi George Remains Positive as Rivers United Clinch Continental Ticket

Rivers United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Kwara United in a Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 37 clash at the Kwara Stadium in Ilorin on Sunday, but the result didn’t dampen the mood in the camp as the team secured a continental ticket for next season.

Technical Manager Finidi George expressed satisfaction with the team’s achievement despite the loss. “We are still in a good place,” he said at the post-match press conference. “We have our last home match, and if we win that one, we will get that second place.”

Kwara United capitalized on a slow start from Rivers United, netting three goals before the visitors could find a response. Finidi admitted the team lacked intensity early on. “That football for you, when you expect to play with that intensity, today it wasn't there. A little bit sloppy, but we'll go back, analyze our performance, and come back stronger next season.”

Although disappointed with the manner of the loss, Finidi remained focused on the bigger picture. “The aim is to get a continental ticket, and it's all playing out. We didn't say we were going to win the league, but we achieved our goal.”

Rivers United will host Nasarawa United on May 25. A win in that fixture will seal second place and a CAF Champions League spot. Finidi wrapped up his comments with a nod to the champions: “Congratulations to Remo Stars on their league title. We'll come back stronger next season.”
