City FC Abuja has responded firmly to accusations made by Coach Bunmi Blair of Family Worship Center FC, following a controversial end to their NLO-NNL Playoff clash in Kaduna.
In an official statement, City FC described the claims of biased officiating as “baseless and damaging,” stressing that their promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) was earned on merit, not favoured decisions.
Coach Blair had accused match officials of bias and alleged that penalties, including one awarded against Camp Pro FC, were “manufactured” to benefit City FC. In response, City FC challenged him to present tangible evidence, asserting that without proof, his remarks remain speculative and unfounded.
“It’s worth noting that City FC had already qualified for the next stage with two wins before facing FWC,” the statement read, adding that such facts render the protest questionable.
The club also criticised Coach Blair’s decision to instruct his players to sit on the pitch in protest, calling it a move that “brings the game into disrepute” and risks damaging the credibility of the league.
“As a respected figure in the football community, Coach Blair should know better than to undermine the integrity of the game,” the club noted.
City FC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to fair play, sportsmanship, and the values of football, stating it will not be drawn into further engagement over “unsubstantiated claims.”
