Warri Wolves chairman, Neville Ambakaderemo, has assured fans that his team will approach the upcoming Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 play-off with full focus and commitment, despite being one of the host teams.
The decisive play-off, scheduled for July 5–12 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, will determine the 2024/25 NNL champion and the four teams promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Neville stated that playing in familiar territory would not lead to any form of complacency.
“Although we are playing at home, that doesn’t mean we will be complacent. All the teams coming to Asaba will be well prepared because everyone is targeting promotion,” he said.
He dismissed the notion of home advantage playing a decisive role in the second-tier league, citing the competitive and neutral nature of recent NNL seasons.
“There is no favouritism in the NNL. Home advantage doesn’t count anymore. That’s why we’re leaving nothing to chance in our preparations.”
Neville expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to deliver, highlighting their strong showing in Conference B of the regular season.
“I have no doubt in my mind that we will perform well at the play-offs. With the calibre of players we have and how they performed during the regular season, we are ready for any opposition.”
“Our goal is not just promotion. We are going for the NNL title,” he added.
The teams vying for the four promotion spots alongside Warri Wolves include Osun United, Crown FC, Barau FC, Kun Khalifat FC, Doma United, Yobe Desert Stars, and Wikki Tourists.
