Gateway United FC will return to the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta, for the first time in over a year this Saturday, June 7, as they face Osun United in their final home match of the 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The fixture, part of Matchday 21 action, marks a symbolic homecoming for the Ogun State-based side, who last played at the iconic stadium on April 13, 2024, in a goalless draw with Ikorodu City.
After spending the first half of the season at the Gateway International Stadium in Ilaro and the second at Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, the return to Abeokuta has been welcomed by the club as a major boost.
Acting General Manager, Niyi Soleye, described the move back to Kuto as a “moment of reconnection.”
“Returning to Kuto for our final home game is more than just a logistical shift — it’s a moment of reconnection. This is where the soul of the club resides,” Soleye said. “We’re proud to be back, and we want to give our supporters something to remember.”
He also expressed appreciation for fans in Ilaro and Ijebu Ode, acknowledging their unwavering support during the team’s time away from Abeokuta.
Soleye added that the team had grown stronger through challenges and urged fans to come out in large numbers on Saturday.
“Let’s make this a celebration — not just of football, but of resilience and community spirit,” he said.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. as Gateway United aim to cap off their home campaign with a win and strengthen their chances of survival in the NNL.
