The Nigeria National League (NNL) has officially announced that the 2025/2026 season will commence in October 2025, following a board meeting held on Friday, 11 July at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
The league's Annual General Meeting (AGM) is also scheduled for the final week of August 2025, as part of the preparations for the new campaign.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed the 2024/2025 season and discussed strategic plans to build on its recent progress. Appreciation was extended to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, and the people of the state for their hospitality and sponsorship of the 2025 NNL Promotion Playoffs.
The NNL Board congratulated the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on his appointment as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B). The Board described his elevation by CAF as a well-deserved recognition of his leadership.
In line with the recent decision of the NFF Executive Committee to extend the tenure of the current NNL leadership, the Board reaffirmed its loyalty to the Federation. It pledged continued support for reforms aimed at professionalising Nigerian football and elevating the league’s status.
Acknowledgements were also extended to key sponsors and partners including Prostar Recreational Services Ltd, Sportlight Hub Ltd, Sofascore, and Monimichelle. Hon. Kunle Soname was specially recognised for hosting the pre-season workshop that helped shape a successful campaign.
The Nigeria National League Clubs Owners Association (NALCOMA) was praised for its discipline and cooperation throughout the season, while officiating standards were acknowledged to have improved significantly. Commendations were given to the Nigeria Referees Association and the NFF Referees Appointment Committee.
As part of future plans, the Board announced its intention to establish a Constitution Review Committee to revise articles in the league’s Rules and Regulations for improved governance.
Promotions and Relegations Confirmed
Four clubs earned promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after an intense 2024/2025 season:
- Wikki Tourists FC
- Barau FC
- Warri Wolves FC
- Kun Khalifat FC
Meanwhile, eight clubs have been relegated to the lower division:
- Ijele FC
- Igbajo United FC
- 1472 FC
- Abakiliki FC
- Madiba FC
- Gateway FC
- Zamfara United FC
- Adamawa United FC
As the season wraps up, the NNL Board reaffirmed its commitment to continuous improvement, deeper stakeholder engagement, and alignment with global best practices to make the league more competitive and commercially attractive.
