El-Kanemi Warriors’ new signing, Hakeem Otuyiga, has quickly proven his worth between the sticks, helping the Maiduguri side maintain an unbeaten start to the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The experienced goalkeeper, who joined from relegated Akwa United, has kept back-to-back clean sheets in his first two games, providing a solid foundation for the team’s early success.
On Matchday 1, Otuyiga stole the show in the 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance, with fans at the stadium chanting his name in appreciation of his commanding presence and sharp reflexes. His heroics continued in Lagos on Sunday, where he pulled off several crucial saves to secure a point against Ikorodu City and extend the Warriors’ unbeaten run.
Club media director Aliyu ‘Gaga’ Mustapha praised Otuyiga’s immediate impact, noting that his performances could have earned him a spot in a Team of the Week selection. “His arrival, alongside Iddrisu Ibrahim, Francis Achem and Modu Milo, has brought added depth and a fierce competition to El-Kanemi Warriors’ goalkeeping department. It is a positive sign for the team’s ambitions this season,” Aliyu wrote on a WhatsApp group platform.
El-Kanemi fans will be eager to see if Otuyiga can continue his impressive form as the season progresses.
