Aminu Praises Discipline as Dokubo Reflects on Mighty Jets’ Defeat

FC Basira head coach, Aminu Mohamed, has hailed his players and supporters after their impressive 3-1 win over Mighty Jets of Jos in the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) opener.

Speaking after the match, Coach Aminu credited the victory to teamwork, discipline, and belief. “We had plenty of respect for our opponents, but we believed in our abilities,” he said. “We matched them ball to ball, game for game, and created chances that we utilised. We’re delighted to have started on a good note, and this is just the beginning for FC Basira. We’ll continue to work hard and keep this momentum going.”

He also expressed appreciation to the club’s supporters for their passionate backing. “Our supporters were amazing. Their energy lifted the players, and we want to make them proud, especially after missing out on the Premiership ticket last season,” he added.

In contrast, Mighty Jets’ Technical Adviser, Ere Dokubo, was left disappointed by his side’s defeat, describing the result as a tough one to take. “My hopes were shattered,” he said. “We came with focus, hoping to take the maximum three points, but it didn’t work out. I’m disappointed, not just with the players, but with myself.”

Dokubo blamed the loss on early lapses in defence. “FC Basira’s goals were too quick and cheap. We were demoralised, and it affected our performance. They’re not better than Mighty Jets; they were just lucky to have won,” he remarked.

Despite the setback, the coach remains optimistic about bouncing back. “We’ll put this behind us and focus on the next game. We have two weeks to prepare, and I’m confident we’ll return stronger,” Dokubo said.

Matchday One in the NNL will continue across all four conferences on the weekend of 15th and 16th November 2025, with FC Basira’s Abubakar Yusuf currently leading the goal scorers’ chart after netting a brace in the victory over Mighty Jets.
