The Nigeria National League has directed all participating clubs to establish feeder teams or academies as part of new measures aimed at strengthening player development and improving the league’s overall structure.
NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Ibrahim said feeder teams are essential for grooming young talents, providing a pathway for emerging players to develop their skills and earn promotion to senior squads. He noted that properly structured feeder sides can also generate revenue and create a sustainable talent pipeline for clubs.
Ibrahim referenced Article 6:9.1 of the codified NNL rules, which mandates clubs to maintain feeder teams as part of their registration requirements.
Clubs have been instructed to submit full details of their feeder team players to the league secretariat for directory and authentication purposes.
The NNL also issued a one-month deadline for clubs yet to establish feeder teams, warning that failure to comply may attract sanctions.
According to the league body, this renewed focus on youth development is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening the foundation of Nigerian football.
