Stade Malien secured their maiden victory in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League group phase by edging Tanzania’s Simba SC 2–1 at home in Bamako. The Malian champions produced a focused and determined display, signalling their intent in the competitive Group D.
Supported by a vibrant home crowd, Stade Malien set the tempo early as Simba struggled to find their footing. Their pressure paid off in the 16th minute when Taddeus Nikeng capitalised on a loose ball in the box to open the scoring, igniting celebrations across the stadium.
Just seven minutes later, Ismaila Simpara doubled the lead with a composed finish inside the area, reflecting Stade Malien’s commanding start to the match.
Following a solid goalless draw away at ES Tunis last week, Stade Malien seemed on course for a comfortable win. However, Simba came out stronger after the break and pulled one back nine minutes into the second half, raising the tension.
Despite the shift in momentum, Stade Malien maintained their composure and tactical discipline. The closing stages saw the hosts expertly manage the game to secure a well-earned victory.
