Interim coach Lawrence Ukaegbu says Enyimba’s victory over Enugu Rangers was the pure reward for unity and hard work after the People’s Elephant sealed a 2–1 win in Sunday’s NPFL Matchday 15 Oriental Derby at the Enyimba International Stadium.
The Aba side delivered a confident and energetic performance to return to winning ways and extend their long-standing dominance over their rivals. The packed home crowd roared throughout as Enyimba controlled key moments of the game and showcased greater composure in both boxes.
Young forward Chidera Michael opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with a calm finish after Onyebuchi Nwaorisa, making his first start of the season, carved through the right side before delivering a precise cross.
Second-half substitute Stanley Dimgba doubled the lead in the 81st minute, arriving sharply in the box to convert Nwokeji Godswill’s low delivery. Rangers responded late through Agu’s well-taken free kick, but Enyimba held firm to protect their lead.
Captain Kalu Nweke, Nwaorisa, and Chidera were constant threats, while goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunga made crucial stops in the second half to keep Enyimba in control.
Reflecting on the performance, Ukaegbu praised the collective spirit that drove the team to victory. He said the result was “hard work rewarded” and added that unity within the squad was the key factor behind their derby win.
Enyimba will now shift their attention to next Sunday’s trip to Abeokuta, where they face defending champions Remo Stars in another high-profile fixture.
