Governor Abdullahi Sule has redeemed his financial pledge to Nasarawa United following their emphatic 4–1 victory over Rivers United, while warning individuals undermining the club’s progress to desist immediately.
The Governor presented a cash reward of N4 million to the team after their training session at the Lafia City Stadium on Tuesday, honouring his promise of N1 million per goal scored in the Matchday 31 encounter.
Speaking after the presentation, Sule praised the team’s performance and linked their attacking output to a broader competitive edge.
He said the need to score more goals had been discussed during a recent Sallah visit, stressing that superior goal margins could prove decisive when teams are level on points.
The Governor expressed satisfaction that the team delivered on that expectation, adding that their performance reflected growing progress in sports development across the state.
However, Sule issued a firm warning to individuals he accused of disrupting the club’s stability during matches. He described reports of internal disputes among top officials during the game against Rivers United as unacceptable.
He cautioned that such actions could attract sanctions from league authorities, including points deductions, and made it clear that the government would not tolerate conduct capable of damaging the team’s standing.
Sule stated that anyone found responsible for actions that could lead to punishment for Nasarawa United or Nasarawa Amazons would face decisive consequences.
He also revealed that Lafia is set to host an upcoming Nigeria Football Federation congress later this year, describing it as recognition of the state’s efforts in sports development.
In response, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, commended the Governor for his continued support and assured him of the team’s commitment to sustained success.
Yakubu also confirmed that approval had been granted for the air travel of players and officials for their next away fixture.
Nasarawa United currently sit third in the Nigeria Premier Football League table with 50 points from 31 matches and will face Kwara United in Lagos in their next outing.
