The renewed calls come after CAF’s controversial move to strip Senegal of the 2025 AFCON trophy under circumstances many observers consider comparable.
Across social media platforms and sports forums, Guinean fans argue that the outcome of the 1976 tournament should be reassessed. They point to the decisive round-robin clash between Guinea and Morocco, where the Moroccan team briefly left the pitch in protest after Chérif Souleymane gave Guinea a 33rd-minute lead.
Morocco later returned to complete the match, with Ahmed Makrouh scoring a late equaliser in the 86th minute as the game finished 1–1.
At the time, Morocco required only a draw to secure the title, while Guinea needed a victory to emerge champions.
Supporters backing the review argue that if CAF is willing to apply retrospective sanctions in recent cases, then similar historical incidents should be examined under the same framework.
