Head Coach Bolarinwa Idris praised his side’s discipline and character after Ekiti United secured a 1–0 victory over Abakaliki FC to extend their unbeaten home run.
The tightly contested encounter at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium saw the hosts dominate early proceedings, creating chances but struggling to break down a resolute defence.
Ekiti United eventually found the breakthrough in the 40th minute when Damilola Adeyeye was fouled inside the penalty area. Ayodeji Lawal converted from the spot to hand the hosts the lead at the interval.
The second half required defensive resilience, with goalkeeper Wale Makanjuola producing key saves to preserve the advantage. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award as the game ended 1–0.
Reflecting on the result, Idris emphasised the importance of focus and discipline against a strong opponent.
“It was a tough game, but a well deserved win against a strong side,” he said. “I am pleased with the discipline and character the players showed throughout the match.”
Lawal, who scored the decisive goal, also expressed satisfaction with his contribution, stating he remained calm while taking the penalty and was delighted to help maintain the club’s strong home form.
