Goalkeeper Oyelami Abel has expressed relief after Crown FC secured their Nigeria National League status following a dramatic final day of the season.
The Ajilete Warriors confirmed their survival despite a 1-0 defeat to Heartland FC in Owerri, with results elsewhere going in their favour.
Crown FC’s status was ultimately preserved by Smart City FC, who defeated Abia Comets FC to ensure the Ibadan-based side avoided relegation.
Oyelami delivered a strong performance in goal, making five key saves to keep his team competitive throughout the match. However, he was beaten in the 86th minute by former teammate Jonathan Osondu.
Speaking after the match, the goalkeeper described the outcome as a hard-earned achievement and expressed gratitude for the team’s survival.
He also assured supporters that the team would aim for better performances next season as they look to build on the experience.
