Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has stressed that players hoping to break into Nigeria's national team must prove they are better than those already occupying places in the squad.
The Franco-Malian tactician said competition for positions has become increasingly intense due to the depth of talent available across the team.
Speaking in an interview, Chelle highlighted the quality of players competing in defence, midfield and attack, noting that established internationals have set a high standard for aspiring newcomers.
"If you want to break into central defence, you have players like Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Igho Ogbu, Benjamin Frederick and Fernandez competing for places," Chelle said.
The coach also pointed to the strength of the full-back positions, where Ola Aina, Bruno Onyemaechi and Zaidu Sanusi continue to battle for selection alongside other emerging talents.
In midfield, Chelle singled out Alex Iwobi for special praise, describing the Fulham star as "a magician" and one of the key figures in the squad.
The Super Eagles boss was equally complimentary of Nigeria's attacking options, reserving his highest praise for Victor Osimhen, whom he described as the best striker in the world.
"You have to be better than these players to break into the team," Chelle stated. "To be part of the Super Eagles, you must give everything, intensity, aggression and commitment. Every player must earn his place."
Chelle's comments underline the growing depth within the Super Eagles squad as Nigeria continues preparations for upcoming international assignments.
