Falconets to Observe One Week Break in Preparation for FIFA U20 Women's World Cup

The Nigeria U20 women's national team, also known as the Falconets, have been camping in Abuja for three weeks in preparation for the upcoming FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Colombia. However, according BSN Sports, sources from their camp said that the team will be taking a week-long break starting from the end of July until August 7, 2024.

This break may raise some concerns, as it comes at a crucial time when the team should be intensifying their preparations for the tournament. The source from the camp expressed worries that this break will affect their performance at the World Cup. "We resumed camping on 7th July and just three weeks in camp, we will go on a break when we are supposed to be playing international friendly matches in preparation for the world cup," the source said.

The Falconets are grouped in Group D alongside Germany, Venezuela, and Korea Republic. They will begin their campaign on September 1st against Korea Republic at the El Techo Stadium in Bogota at 18:00 pm. Their second group game will be against Germany on September 4th at 5 pm at the same venue. The final group game will see Nigeria face Venezuela on September 7th in Cali at 3 pm.

It remains to be seen how this break will impact the team's performance in the tournament. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has not provided any reasons for this break, but fans will be hoping that the team will come back refreshed and ready to give their best in Colombia.
