Ifeanyi Ekwueme Attends Valuejet Cup Pre-season Tournament Opener

The Valuejet Cup Pre-season tournament opener, held at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, marked a significant milestone in Nigerian football. Ifeanyi Ekwueme, a former Super Eagles player and current sporting director of Enyimba FC, attended the event and praised the tournament organisers for their exceptional efforts.

Ekwueme commended the outstanding quality of football displayed by the participating clubs, noting that it reflects the rapid improvement of Nigerian and African football. The tournament showcased high levels of tactical and technical skill, impressive fitness, and cohesive team play, exceeding expectations and eliminating the typical "pre-season" tag associated with such competitions.

"The fans can attest to it that such standard has eliminated the tag of ‘preseason’ which such competition is usually associated-with," he said.

The former Super Eagles player attributed the success to the participation of top-quality players, citing teams like Al Merrikh, Ikorodu City Shooting Stars, and others. Ekwueme emphasized the importance of international pre-season tournaments in preparing NPFL clubs for domestic and continental competitions, providing a platform for skill showcase, experience, and exposure against global opponents.

“We have instead seen encouraging levels of fitness, accurate and incisive passes, and cohesive play by the teams among other positive attributes.

“This can however be attributed to the parading of good quality players by the teams especially teams like Al Merrikh , Ikorodu City Shooting Stars and other clubs in this competition,” said Ekwueme.

A Call for More International Pre-season Tournaments
Ekwueme's attendance and endorsement of the Valuejet Pre-season tournament underscore the growing significance of such events in developing Nigerian and African football. His call for more international pre-season tournaments resonates with the need for sustained growth and improvement in the sport.

By organizing more tournaments like the Valuejet Pre-season competition, Nigerian football can continue to bridge the gap with international standards, fostering a competitive and exciting league that showcases the best of African talent.

The Future of Nigerian Football Looks Bright
