Sunshine Stars' Technical Adviser, Bala Abubakar, has declared the team ready to tackle the second phase of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2024/2025 season.
Speaking ahead of their reverse fixture against Ikorodu City, Abubakar emphasized the importance of focus and intensity, especially against the Lagos-based side, who defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1 in the first leg.
“We are working round the clock to ensure we start the second string of matches on a promising note, beginning with victory in our first match,” said Abubakar.
Acknowledging the strength of their opponents, he added, “The reverse fixture against Ikorodu City will be tough; they are a strong side and currently hold a comfortable position on the NPFL table. But the team is stronger now, and we are stepping into this round more formidable than ever.”
Strengthened Squad and Tactical Adjustments
Abubakar revealed that his technical crew has been tirelessly improving the team's competitiveness. This includes the addition of quality players to strengthen the squad and enhance competition for starting positions.
The coach also addressed their earlier struggles with converting chances, attributing it to composure issues in the goal area. “We have improved significantly in the area of goal-scoring. From the friendly matches played, we were able to capitalise on chances created,” he noted.
Setting Sights on Top 10 Finish
Although Sunshine Stars are not in the relegation zone, Abubakar is determined to see the team climb higher on the NPFL table. Their immediate goal is to secure a spot among the top 10 teams in the league.
“After tomorrow’s game, our supporters and well-wishers will start seeing a better, well-composed Sunshine Stars,” he assured. “With their support and prayers, we are confident the boys will make them proud by the end of the season.”
The match against Ikorodu City is expected to be a significant test for Sunshine Stars as they aim to begin the second phase of the NPFL on a positive note.
