The Matchday 32 contest lived up to expectations, with drama, intensity, and goals as the People’s Elephant boosted their push for a top-three finish.
A packed crowd witnessed the fiery encounter, which drew political dignitaries including the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Hon Ikechukwu Emetu, and the State Commissioner for Sports, Hon Nwaobilor Ananaba. Their presence underscored the significance of the derby, and both teams rose to the occasion with spirited performances.
The visitors stunned the home crowd in the 21st minute when Antoine Ijoma calmly slotted home to give Abia Warriors the lead. His composed finish temporarily silenced the noisy Aba supporters and gave the Warriors early momentum.
Enyimba responded with urgency, piling pressure on their rivals. Their persistence paid off in the 36th minute as winger Kalu Nweke delivered a moment of brilliance, curling a stunning effort beyond the goalkeeper to level the tie and ignite wild celebrations in the stands.
