Ilorin’s Unicorns FC Stars Begin Trials with Premier League Club Nottingham Forest

English Premier League side Nottingham Forest has welcomed three Nigerian players from Unicorns FC of Ilorin for a two-week trial, marking a significant step in the players' careers and Nigerian football development.

The trialists include winger Olamide Sunday Olasehinde, central defender Sulyman Kehinde Quadri, and midfielder Sanni Sukanmi Adebayo. The trio recently arrived in the UK as part of a growing pipeline of talent from Unicorns FC, which has sent at least nine players abroad in the past year.

Unicorns FC CEO, Victor Awoniyi, expressed optimism about the trials, calling it a valuable opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s football talent on the global stage. The club’s secretary, Suleiman Atunrase, is also in the UK to support the players during their stay.

Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, voiced his excitement about the development. Reflecting on his own experience with Nigeria's U-15 and U-17 national teams, Awoniyi emphasized the importance of providing platforms for emerging talents.

“With Nigeria’s vast pool of talent, creating opportunities like this is key to making young players' dreams a reality,” he said. “It’s a privilege to support initiatives that help nurture the next generation of stars.”

Awoniyi also hinted at ongoing efforts to secure more opportunities for young Nigerian players across Europe.
