Nasarawa United have been sanctioned by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a N6 million fine and a home ground ban following crowd trouble during their Matchday 33 fixture against Plateau United in Lafia.
The league body took swift action after confirming reports of an assault on Plateau United player Vincent Temitope and an attempted attack on match officials after the final whistle.
The sanctions are based on four charges, citing violations of NPFL Rules B13.52, B13.22, C9, and C11. The club was fined N1 million for failing to provide adequate security, N1 million for supporters’ misconduct, and N1 million to cover medical expenses for the assaulted player. An additional N3 million was imposed for repeated breaches of league rules.
As part of the punishment, the NPFL has relocated Nasarawa United’s remaining home matches to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, away from their Lafia City Stadium base.
Davidson Owumi, Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, emphasized that the penalties highlight the league’s zero tolerance for misconduct.
Nasarawa United have 48 hours to accept the ruling or appeal before a disciplinary panel.
