Nigeria’s Flying Eagles wrapped up their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 4-1 penalty shootout win over hosts Egypt to secure the bronze medal.
After a narrow 1-0 loss to South Africa in the semifinals, Nigeria faced Egypt—beaten by Morocco—in the third-place playoff. The hosts took an early lead in the second minute through Hassan Osama, raising hopes of a home victory.
But the Flying Eagles hit back after the break. Divine Oliseh intercepted a misplaced pass from Ahmed Khaled and set up Bidemi Amole, who finished calmly past goalkeeper Ahmed Wahba to level the game.
Egypt came close to a winner in stoppage time, but the match headed to penalties, where Nigeria converted four of their spot-kicks while Egypt faltered. The victory earned the Flying Eagles their second consecutive third-place finish at the tournament.
