The Nationwide League One (NLO) Secretariat has firmly dismissed allegations made by Cynosure FC as unfounded, calling the club's recent claims a deliberate attempt to discredit the integrity of Nigeria’s third-tier league.
In a widely circulated report through anonymous media outlets, Cynosure FC alleged that disciplinary measures within the league were inconsistently applied. They claimed that a team which lost with a full squad was punished, while another team that fielded only seven players faced no consequences. They also accused the league of penalizing clubs raising concerns about alleged match-fixing.
The controversy stems from a match between Liberty Lions FC and E World United FC at the Calabar Centre, where Cynosure FC alleged that Liberty Lions fielded only seven players in a bid to manipulate the outcome and secure a playoff spot.
However, investigations by the NLO Secretariat, including an official report from the Match Commissioner, found no basis for the allegations. The findings indicated that Cynosure FC’s claims were not only false but a deliberate act aimed at tarnishing the image of the league and Nigerian football.
The NLO disciplinary committee subsequently summoned Cynosure FC's Chairman, who failed to provide evidence to support the claims. As a result, the club was fined ₦500,000 and suspended from all football activities for one year.
The NLO emphasized that Cynosure FC’s actions risked damaging the credibility of the Nationwide League One, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the broader image of Nigerian football.
