The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has mandated all Match Commissioners to enforce full compliance with post-match media protocols, especially interviews involving coaches and players.
NPFL Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, issued the directive via the Matchday Situation Room, emphasizing that non-compliance will attract sanctions.
“It is mandatory for Match Commissioners to ensure that Coaches and players appear for post-match interviews with the media,” Elegbeleye stated.
He instructed Match Commissioners to report any club or coach that fails to honor media obligations after games. Offending coaches risk fines and will be barred from the bench until such fines are paid.
The directive follows growing complaints from media partners about being denied access to crucial content.
Elegbeleye stressed that ensuring media access is essential for promoting the league to fans across television, radio, social media, and print.
The NPFL hopes the new enforcement will also discourage coaches from walking off in frustration after defeats, a behavior the league considers unprofessional.
