Edo Queens Grab First Win of NWFL Super 6 With Emem Essien Brace

Edo Queens picked up their first win in the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with a 2-0 victory over Naija Ratels on matchday three in Ikenne.

Emem Essien was the star of the match, scoring twice in quick succession in the 20th and 22nd minutes to hand the defending champions all three points. The win comes after a slow start to the tournament, with Edo Queens losing to Remo Stars Ladies and drawing with Rivers Angels in their opening fixtures.

Naija Ratels, on the other hand, continue to struggle, having now lost all three of their Super 6 games. They previously fell to Nasarawa Amazons and Remo Stars Ladies.

Despite a balanced contest in terms of statistics — with both teams registering similar numbers in shots and possession — it was Edo Queens who proved more clinical in front of goal. The match saw seven shots on target from Edo Queens to Naija Ratels' six, while both teams had an equal number of fouls (8) and comparable goalkeeping efforts.

The win keeps Edo Queens’ title hopes alive as the Super 6 heads into the final stretch.
