"It Just Wasn't Our Day" - Wikki Tourists Coach Abdu Maikaba Reacts to Federation Cup Exit

Wikki Tourists were eliminated from the 2025 Federation Cup at the quarter-final stage, losing 1-0 to Ikorodu City FC at the Bwari township stadium in Abuja on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Despite dominating the game from start to finish, Wikki couldn't find the breakthrough. The closest they came was through Imamu Bala Magaji early on, but he missed a good scoring opportunity.

The first half ended goalless, with Wikki maintaining control. However, eight minutes into the second half, Ikorodu City was awarded a penalty, which they converted to take a 1-0 lead.

Tensions rose as both teams pushed hard, resulting in a red card for a player from each side. Despite Wikki's relentless pressure and possession dominance, they couldn't score, and Ikorodu City's defense held strong.

After five minutes of added time, the final whistle blew, sending Ikorodu City to the semi-finals. Coach Abdu Maikaba said, "You all saw how we played, we dominated from start to finish, but the goal just wouldn’t come. That’s football for you. It just wasn’t our day. I’m proud of the boys, they showed great character, resilience, and determination."

He added, "Now, our full focus shifts to the remaining NNL25 matches. We are still on a mission to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League. We ask for continued patience, prayers, and support from our fans."

Wikki Tourists will now concentrate on the league, determined to bounce back stronger.
