The second edition of the Nwankwo Kanu U-19 Football Tournament begins today, Friday, 13 June, at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, with six youth teams set to battle for supremacy in the Abia State centre.
Sponsored by Enyimba FC Sporting Director and former Super Eagles midfielder, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Ekwueme, the tournament reflects a growing commitment to youth development through grassroots football.
“This is more than just football—it’s about creating opportunities, redirecting youthful energy into meaningful pursuit, and building bridges to a brighter future,” Ekwueme said.
Running simultaneously with the Owerri centre in Imo State, both zones feature six teams each. The respective winners will clash in a grand finale at the Enyimba Stadium, with the final date to be announced.

11:00 AM – Aba Madrid FC vs Okwu United
1:00 PM – Ngwa United vs Petson Academy
Chairman of the Aba Local Organising Committee, Sunny Black Ogbeka, confirmed that Ambassador Nwankwo Kanu will attend as Special Guest of Honour, underlining the importance of the competition to the Nigerian football legend.
Beyond the on-pitch action, the Kanu U-19 Tournament aims to steer young people away from crime, drug abuse, and street violence, offering structured competition, mentorship, and a platform for talent discovery.
