As Kwara United prepare for Saturday’s highly anticipated President Federation Cup final, Head Coach Tunde Sanni has declared that his side is ready to end the state’s 49-year wait for silverware — and not intimidated by opponents Abakaliki FC.
Speaking in Yoruba on a popular sports programme on Sure 97.5FM Lagos, Sanni exuded confidence in his team’s chances, stressing that they are not to be compared with Ikorodu City, whom Abakaliki defeated in the semi-finals.
“We are not Ikorodu City. Ask them what we did to them in both Lagos and Ilorin – they will tell you,” he said.
The Kwara United boss was quick to clarify that his team respects Abakaliki FC but will not be giving them any psychological advantage.
“We are not underrating Abakaliki FC, but we are also not afraid. We’ll settle everything on the pitch in 90 minutes.”
Sanni added that his players are highly motivated and fully focused on the task ahead, determined to bring glory back to Kwara State.
Joining him on the show was in-form striker Wasiu Alalade, who echoed the coach’s sentiments. He assured fans that the atmosphere in camp is calm and confident.
“We will approach the match with focus and seriousness, but without panic. The aim is to make our supporters proud,” Alalade said.
Both Coach Sanni and Alalade were warmly welcomed by the station’s General Manager, who presented them with souvenirs in appreciation of their visit.
The final promises to be a thrilling encounter as Kwara United look to make history at the expense of a spirited Abakaliki FC.
