Bayelsa Queens Chairman, Pastor Robin Apreala, has expressed optimism over the club’s recent signings as the team intensifies preparations for the CAF Women’s Champions League and the 2024/25 NWFL Premiership season.
Reacting to the arrival of forwards Janet Akekoromowei and Lucky Mary, Pastor Apreala thanked God for a successful transfer process and acknowledged the continuous support of the Bayelsa State Government and the Prosperity Family.
“We are truly grateful to God Almighty for the successful signing of Janet Akekoromowei and Lucky Mary,” he said. “These talented players will add quality and depth to our squad as we prepare for the CAF Women’s Champions League and the new NWFL Premiership season.”
He extended appreciation to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali, and all key stakeholders who have stood firmly with the team.
“Their unwavering support and investment remain the driving force behind our success. We will continue working to make Bayelsa proud and maintain our place among Africa’s top women’s football clubs,” he added.
Head Coach Whyte Ogbonda also welcomed the new additions, describing both players as proven attackers who would boost the team’s attacking options.
“Janet Akekoromowei and Lucky Mary are both proven attackers with the hunger and talent to help us compete at the highest level,” Ogbonda said. “Their arrival adds depth, creativity, and goal-scoring options.”
The coach confirmed that more signings are in the pipeline to ensure the team is competitive across all fronts.
“We are still working to strengthen a few key areas to ensure a balanced squad. Our aim is to build a team that can challenge for every trophy,” he concluded.
Bayelsa Queens are expected to finalise their squad ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers and the NWFL campaign.
