Enyimba International FC have maintained a solid record on opening day fixtures in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over the past ten seasons, recording seven wins, two defeats, and one draw across that period.
The Aba-based club have scored a total of 17 goals and conceded just 7 in their last ten Matchday One appearances, achieving a goal difference of +10. Fifteen different players have contributed to their tally, underlining the team’s depth and attacking diversity over the years.
Enyimba’s Matchday One performances began with a 1-0 away loss to Rivers United in the 2015/16 season, with Christian Obomate scoring the only goal of the game in Port Harcourt.
In the following campaign (2016/17), they bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars, thanks to a 20th-minute strike from Mustapha.
The 2017/18 opener ended in a 1-1 draw against Lobi Stars in Makurdi. Udeagha scored for Enyimba in the 39th minute before Mba equalised from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.
Enyimba enjoyed a more comfortable start to the 2018/19 season, defeating MFM FC 2-0 in Aba through goals from Nelson Ogbonnaya and Abdulrahman Bashir.
Their 2019/2020 campaign began in style with a 3-1 win over Nasarawa United. Austin Oladapo scored twice, and Samson Obi added another, while Hamzat Owolabi pulled one back for the visitors.
In 2020/2021, Enyimba defeated Abia Warriors 1-0, with Timileyin scoring from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
The two sides met again in the 2021/2022 season, where Enyimba secured a 2-1 win. Awazie and Obasi scored for the People's Elephant, while Samson found the net for Abia Warriors.
The 2022/2023 season saw Enyimba claim an away win over Nasarawa United. Akanni and Obot scored for the Aba giants, while Oche grabbed a late goal for the hosts.
In 2023/2024, Enyimba defeated Bendel Insurance 2-1 in Aba. Atule and Mbaoma were the scorers for Enyimba, while Ismael Seriki pulled one back for the visitors.
The most recent season, 2024/2025, opened with a dominant 3-1 away win over Heartland. Lawan scored for the home side, but Enyimba responded with goals from Ihemekwele and a brace from Jephta.
