The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed that the 2025 NWFL Championship will be hosted in Abia State from 11 to 21 September 2025.
The competition, which serves as the second tier of women’s football in Nigeria, is a crucial pathway for clubs seeking promotion to the elite NWFL Premiership.
Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, announced on Monday, 18 August 2025, that 17 clubs have registered for this year’s edition. The teams will be drawn into four groups, with the winners of each group gaining automatic promotion to the Premiership for the 2025/2026 season.
“We want to assure all participating teams that the Championship will be conducted under the highest standards of fair play, with a level playing ground for everyone involved,” Shabi stated. “Our commitment is to ensure that the competition reflects the values of transparency, integrity, and sporting excellence.”
Schedule and Venues
- Teams arrive in Abia State on 11 September.
- Official draws and pre-match meetings on 12 September
- Matchday One kicks off on 13 September
- Competition runs until 21 September with rest days in between for player recovery.
- Matches will be staged at Abiriba Stadium and Umuahia Township Stadium
