The Kano State Government has granted approval for Barau Football Club to use the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, as their temporary home ground for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The decision was reached after a closed-door meeting between representatives of the Kano State Sports Commission and the management of Barau FC, according to the club’s Media Director, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale.
Barau FC’s original home venue, the Dambatta Stadium in Kano North, is undergoing renovation works ahead of the new campaign.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of Barau FC, Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, expressed gratitude to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, for granting approval.
“First of all, I would like to thank the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, for granting us approval to play our matches at the Sani Abacha Stadium. The Sports Commission has also played a vital role by listening to the concerns of our people and approving our request,” Chanji said.
He also commended the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for his support and called on fans in Kano State to conduct themselves responsibly during Barau FC matches this season.
Barau FC will kick off their NPFL campaign against Enyimba FC on Sunday, 24 August 2025, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.
